Calcasieu River Bridge Replacement Project
In 2025 Beaucastle Rooney provided a range of pre-construction services to the Joint Venture company delivering the replacement of the existing bridge over the Calcasieu River, part of the I-10. This is the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken in the state of Louisiana by value and is only the second piece of infrastructure ever delivered using the P3 model in the state.
One aspect of our work focused upon creating better quality control mechanisms for the project, ensuring that all parties to the P3 were in agreement with the contract compliance monitoring to be undertaken on the project and how this would occur.
Further work went into improving the relationship between the JV delivering the project and the Louisiana Department of Transport, in order to guarantee a collaborative approach was taken through the course of construction and that there was a common interpretation of how the contract mechanisms would work during construction.
The existing Calcasieu River Bridge: built in 1952, predates the Interstate-10 and was originally built with a daily car capacity of 37,000 cars.
The design for the new Calcasieu River Bridge: construction is due to commence in 2026 and be completed by 2031. The bridge will run over 5.5 miles, costing over $2bn and will be capable of carrying over 90,000 cars a day.
